Completed in 1839,
Oak Alley Plantation overlooks the Mississippi fifty-three miles upstream from New Orleans, Louisiana. The twenty-five acre plantation built by Jacques T. Roman exemplified the lavish life styles of the river region's sugar empires.
Now a National Historic Landmark, Oak Alley was the first example of ante-bellum restoration along River Road. Its trustees are charged with maintaining and preserving the mansion and surrounding properties while providing instruction and education into the times and culture of the period.
