During the 18th and 19th centuries, the World was experiencing an agricultural revolution. Vast improvements in farm technology led to massive and rapid increases in agricultural productivity. To enter the World market, the excess products had to be readied for transport. For tobacco, this led to the development of tobacco drying barns.
