This is the first in a series describing a basic infrared workflow. Although there are many different techniques, this is the one chosen for this series.

The camera is a Nikon D70s converted into a dedicated Super Color infrared system by LifePixel. Among other things, the conversion removes the standard UV and IR filter covering the sensor and replaces it with a custom version. For Super Color, a 590nm filter is used which passes most visible red light along with IR. The camera focus system must also be recalibrated for IR. Lens selection is critical as some models are more prone to hot spots.

Basically this is a good way to repurpose outdated gear and teach the mind's eye to see light.
