Most people in the Louisville area would rather forget January 29, 2009. Louisville, like most of Kentucky and Indiana were covered in a sheet of ice. Businesses were closed, roads were impassible and 205,001 homes and businesses were without power. For some, the experience lasted weeks.

The first night was a true adventure. Although homes across the street had power, we did not. The sleet had stopped and the wind began removing ice covered branches from trees. It was too slick to adventure down the front steps or even onto the front porch. Despite all the chaos, the backlit ice covered trees were picturesque. Although not ideal, the night shots were taken from indoors through the front door's six inch side light.

With each powerless day, the experience was becoming less adventurous. Despite the ongoing hardships, the backyard and Chenoweth Run had been transformed into a winter wonderland. All the day shots were taken within 150 yards of the backdoor. Despite their beauty, the images still conjure memories of fourteen cold days in a powerless home.
