Blizzard of '08

In early March 2008 most of eastern North America experienced a major winter storm. Louisville was not spared and received over fourteen inches of snow. When the skies finally cleared, I ventured into the backyard to photograph the snow, Chenoweth Run and anything else of interest.

I could not believe the transformation. The low morning sun cast long shadows and a warm glow on an otherwise monochromatic winter scene. Sunlight sparkled from frost on the ornamental grasses. Pillows of snow lined the creek banks and blanketed tree limbs. During the night, fernlike ice crystals had formed on plants near the creek. I could not believe the beauty of this winter wonderland and that it was my backyard.
